Subtle Mind Exercise

Wow, that exercise was totally different from the lovingkindness exercise, I don't know if it was me or my computerm but I think it was the CD. But maybe it's points was to distract our thoughts and if that was point it succeed; it took me total over track for a while because I thought the CD was defective and as I went on through the end it was still the same, but I took my focus off the CD and back to my focal point and then I began to calm myself and cleanse my mind in the process. The lovingkindness exercise I think was a better exercise for me to gain a clear mind-set and energy for the day.

  1. I agree, it was very distracting on the CD. Mine was actually pure static after the first few minutes. I tried to look at it as the distraction it was, similiar to my thoughts distracting and was able to do part of the exercise anyway. Guess I wasn't the only one with a defective CD!

  2. Hey Carter,

I'm with you...I thought my CD was defective as well. I didn't even think about the distraction as being the whole point of the exercise. I didn't pay attention to the first episode of static; I just thought something was wrong. I focused back on my breathing and was starting to focus, but once the static popped up again, I lost all focus, got upset, and shut the thing off. It was very different from the Loving-Kindness exercise and I too prefer that one over this one. Hopefully someday I will be able to come back to this exercise when I have become better familiar with meditation, but I can't focus on with all that static going on. We will just have to try it again on a 'down' day when we have more time.

  3. Hey Carter,

I totally agree that the loving kindness exercise was totally better that the subtle mind exercise. When i went over the posts of our peers i noticed we all thought that it was a defect CD or something. lol. Now that i see and know that many of us are experiencing the same thing in regards to the white noise on the CD. Aren't you glad that it is not some super natural thing. lol.
